Columbia College commencement 2011

Graduation is a time of celebration for graduates and their families, a commemoration of a hard job well done.


On the main campus of Columbia College in Columbia, Mo., commencement is marked by special events and two ceremonies. Here is a snapshot of graduation 2011:
  • Total number of graduates: 534
    • Bachelor’s degrees: 423
    • Associate degrees: 54
    • Master’s degrees: 57
  • Commencement speaker: Susan Wilson Solovic '80, best-selling business author, entrepreneur, attorney, Miss Missouri 1979, TV business commentator
  • Commencement ceremonies
    • Noon, Southwell Complex , master's and associates candidates and Day Campus baccalaureate candidates
    • 3:30 p.m., Southwell Complex, Nationwide, Online and Evening campus baccalaureate candidates
  • Ivy Chain ceremony, Bass Commons, 9:30 a.m. During Ivy Chain, one of the oldest commencement ceremonies in America, graduating seniors process onto Bass Commons where they are draped with a continuous chain of ivy. The ivy is then cut and each graduate retains a piece of ivy as a reminder of alma mater.
  • Nurses' Pinning Ceremony, Launer Auditorium, 2 p.m. Nursing graduates are pinned in a ceremony revived by Florence Nightingale; its roots date from the Middle Ages.

    • Christian County, Mo. – 7 graduates
    • Moberly, Mo. – 7 graduates

    • St. Louis, Mo. – 31 graduates
    • Hancock Field, N.Y. – 1 graduate
    • Rolla, Mo. – 4 graduates

Twas a blessed day and I thank God for bringing me this far to experience the commencement. I love Columbia College. I am proud to say I've earned my BSBA with major in Financial Services!!!

The guest speaker was very inspirational and the gentlemen that sung the National Anthem was phenomenal! Awesome experience.

I actually attended the commencement . . . I was on business for my company Infinity Tungsten and was on campus with nothing to do so I wandered in. Funny how things like that work. It was a beautiful ceremony.
