Columbia College's new mission, values and vision statement
During the 2008-2009 academic year, a task force composed of faculty, staff, students, alumni and administrators met to formulate a new mission, values and vision statement to update one written in 1996. On May 1, the Board of Trustees approved the new statement and it is effective immediately.
The statement is intentionally succinct and describes Columbia College as the model institution it is becoming and will become.
The statement is as follows:
Columbia College improves the lives of diverse undergraduate and graduate learners through exemplary teaching.
The liberal arts and sciences and professional programs of the college embrace and profess the values of:
- Student centrism
- Lifelong learning
- Ethics and citizenship
- Flexibility and innovation
- Quality and improvement
- Civility and respect
- Environmental and fiscal stewardship
This statement also will be printed on the back of staff business cards in the near future.
